Trip Report – Mt. Washington – 6 Jan 2016

Four of us snow shoed at Mt. Washington, starting at Raven Lodge. We had mostly misty clouds and quite warm temperatures. We followed Rossiter’s Rise trail untracked, all to ourselves, and then looped back to the Lodge for lunch. In the afternoon we followed Tree Beard’s Trail, Crooked Creek, and part of Old Cabin Loop. There was lots of snow and the accumulated snow on the trees made imaginative shapes. 8.4 km; about four hours.

Activity Hiking
Destination Mine Lake Bluff
Date 18 November 2015, Wednesday
Trip Coordinator Julie Mellanby
Contact Info phone 3978.  Please contact the coordinator in advance.
Description Park near the Mine Lake boat access and walk to Camp Homewood.  From there the route ascends the bluff to the north of Mine Lake with great views — and the weather forecast is very good.  The trail going up the bluff can feel a bit exposed.  This is a hike, not a climb, but do have good footwear and be careful.  The trail down is a regular trail and it loops back underneath the bluffs to the start of the steep bit.  You could go up the down trail, but don’t try to go down the up trail.

Trip Report – Morte Lake Loop – 14 Oct 2015

It was a perfect fall day: sunny and crisp. Six people and three dogs hiked around Morte Lake counter-clockwise. We took the scenic route: Lower Dead Fish, Morte Lake main, Morte Lake north side, Morte Lake south side, Nirvana, Seven Sins, Upper Dead Fish and George’s trail. 11.2 km, 4.5 hours. Mushroom were plentiful and the views were great.

Trip Report – Beech’s Mtn – 27 Sept 2015

A small group took advantage of the great weather to hike up to Beech’s Mountain. This trail is a good workout, rewarded by excellent views. We stopped at the broad overlook to the northeast to enjoy the scenery and then continued on to the summit of Beech for lunch. We then decided to make a loop back to the parking lot by taking the flagged route down the north side of Beech’s mountain, continuing on the old logging road for a while, and then following another flagged route along bluffs, finally joining the North Chinese Mountain trail. 6.5 km; less than 4 hours.
