Intro kayaking courses by Kayak Unlimited, Spring 2013

Training Coordinator Valerie has tracked down the elusive Strathcona Pool Kayak course, a Paddle Canada  “Introduction to Sea Kayaking” as outlined on (page 16 of 40 in the PDF, which is actually page 40 of 64) of the Campbell River Spring Recreation Guide:
http://www.campbellriver.ca/CityHall/Departments/RecreationCulture/RecreationPrograms/Documents/Rec%20Guide%20Winter_Sprint%202013.pdf

Each course is a standalone course. If you take all three courses (Rescue IK1, Paddle Skills IK2, Progressive Paddling Skills IK3) you can earn your Paddle Canada Introduction to Sea Kayaking Certification. Kayaks and all the gear are provided for all courses.

NOTE: IK1 (Rescue skills) at Strathcona Pool; IK2 and IK3 Paddling skills at McIvor Lake or CR Estuary

Please contact  STRATHCONA POOL, 250-287-9234, if you are interested in taking any or all of these courses.

What do you want?? please read and respond asap…….

Several club members have indicated a desire to take a paddling course to learn/improve skills. Others want the opportunity to practise already learnt skills, especially self and assisted rescues.

To meet these needs, I have researched several options for Club members. The research criteria for courses were:

  • On QI if possible
  • If on QI, on-water skills to be learnt/practised in the Lakes (somewhat warmer and more protected)
  • If available, a Paddle Canada Certified instructor so those who want it can receive the PC certification at the end of the course
  • Competitive pricing of course

The easiest way to make sure every member has the basic skills is for the Club to arrange for an INTRODUCTION TO SEA KAYAKING COURSE and/or  LEVEL 1 SEA KAYAKING COURSE for our members, to be held on QI.

(See the Paddle Canada Course guidelines at: http://www.paddlingcanada.com/programs/sea-kayaking25.html   )

The following options are available.

NOTE: IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN OPTION 1 OR OPTION 2, EMAIL ME IMMEDIATELY. Coast Mtn. is holding those dates for us but can only hold them another week or if you can make weekdays let me know as well!!
