Description We will paddle from 1900 to 2030 or so, then have beverage and snacks at the Pub. The tide will be mid and rising. The weather – more of the same.  Any seaworthy craft with required safety equipment is welcome.

Departure Time Arrive at 18:45; on the water at 19:00

Trip Report – Kay Dubois Loop – 30 Jan 2023

Ten intrepid January hikers set out from the WaWaKai end of the Kay Dubois trail. The sky was milky and made a white canopy, the air nippy, and there was a pretty frosting on the fir branches and icicles in the ditches.  Our group followed the trail that turned right at the big tree and looped up the hill, following the logging trails to meet eventually with Cedar Road. We returned via Smiths Road back to warm up at the cabin of 665 WaWaKai Road. Many thanks to all who joined in!  (6.3 km; 2 hours walking)

Description We will drive to the gate for the Morte Lake conservancy and take the short walk up to the lake.  There are a few sites we can choose for a social happy hour, a great view and possibly a swim.

Description This is really two events.  You can do either or both.  We will have a very unstructured kayak practice for bracing and rescues.  There will be no instruction and no gear provided, but we will help each other to practice these important skills.  Following the kayak practice, we will also have a potluck.  You don’t have to be a member to come to the potluck.

Mushroom Cuisine Lovers Eat Local Wild!

Mushroom Trail Chefs at our local restaurants are busy preparing delicious mushroom cuisine. Recipes were submitted  by Quadra Islanders. Each Chef selected  recipe/s to offer on their menu during the  weekends of: Oct 26 – 27 and  Nov 2 – 3.

Follow the Mushroom Trail, taste the mushroom delights! Plus – at that time you can place your name in a draw for a prize.  Participating restaurants are : HBI, Cafe Aroma, Gowlland Harbour Resort & Kameleon.

Congratulations to everyone who submitted such delicious  recipes. The chosen recipe winners are:

  • Barry Hodgson (Chanterelle Soup) served @ Gowlland Resort.
  • Joan Brears (Steak, Guinness & Chanterelle Pie) served at HBI.
  • Darcy Mitchell (Chanterelle & Walnut Pate) served at HBI
  • Smokey Dymny (Mushroom Burger) served @ Kameleon.

Description Calling all QI Outdoor club members and guests to a Potluck Picnic Dinner at Rebecca Spit on Wednesday, July 24 starting at 5:00 p.m.   We’ll have a few kayaks on site, so if you’ve been wanting to try your hand at paddling, this is your chance!  Dinner starts at 6:00.  We’ll also have some short reports on club excursions to date and time to discuss your ideas and feedback on Club activities and plans.  AND – there will be a draw for a door prize, so be sure to bring family and friends!
